Jacob Hwang, ND



Dr. Hwang is an ND at the Bastyr University Clinic who applies integrative approaches using botanical medicine, therapeutic nutrition, preventive medicine and lifestyle counseling.


Dr. Hwang is a clinic supervisor at Bastyr University Clinic and adjunct faculty at Bastyr University California who applies integrative evidence based approaches with botanical medicine, therapeutic nutrition/diets, supplemental nutraceuticals, and lifestyle interventions. He co-instructs a course on evaluating medical literature and provides lectures on various clinical topics to medical students. He also sees patients in practitioner care.

Clinical Interests:

His clinical interests include preventive medicine, gastrointestinal concerns, cardiovascular disease, rheumatic conditions, neurological disorders, endocrine abnormalities, integrative oncology, urological problems, musculoskeletal injuries, urgent care, and adjunctive care management of chronic diseases. He also enjoys safely navigating medication management with naturopathic therapeutics.

Healing Philosophy:

Dr. Hwang believes in treating the person as a whole being and practices informed consent with patients. He enjoys utilizing the latest clinical evidence with the art of medicine to provide the best patient care and outcome. He also enjoys working in collaboration with other medical providers and can serve as adjunctive support in an integrative care team.

Past Experiences:

Before coming to Bastyr University California, Dr. Hwang completed two years of clinical rotations at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health with specialty experience in oncology and botanical medicine in Seattle, Washington. He also completed preceptorships in both outpatient and hospital settings in rheumatology, sports and exercise medicine, and emergency medicine. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Hwang has worked in human subject research in areas of cancer and Parkinson’s disease.  

Education & Affiliations:

Dr. Hwang received his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington and completed his medical residency at Bastyr University Clinic in San Diego, California. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in biology with a concentration in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Hwang is a licensed naturopathic doctor and a member of the California Naturopathic Doctors Association.
