Lydia Franklin | Patient Services Representative
“There’s Nothing More Rewarding than Watching Patients Get Better”
Bastyr Center employee Lydia Franklin is one of the first faces you'll see upon entering our Seattle clinic.
Even before Lydia Franklin started working at Bastyr Center for Natural Health in 2011, she knew that one day she wanted to work at the Seattle clinic that offers 35,000 patient visits a year.
“I had wanted to work at Bastyr for about 10 years before I got a job here,” Franklin says. “That was when I discovered natural medicine and all that it can do for people. I immediately knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.”
Now Franklin is one of the first faces to greet patients when they walk in the door as one of the clinic’s patient services representatives. In addition to checking patients in, they also are responsible for answering phone calls and scheduling appointments, taking payments and setting up patients for discounts.
“I love being on the front lines, meeting everybody behind the scenes and coming in for treatment,” Franklin adds. “You get to watch people get better over time, and there’s nothing more rewarding than that.”
Giving Back to Bastyr and its Patients
This spring, Franklin has an even bigger presence as one of the faces behind Bastyr Center’s latest advertising campaign, which can be seen in print publications as well as on Metro buses around the Puget Sound.
“I’m pretty tickled when someone I know recognizes my picture in an ad for Bastyr, because Bastyr is a big part of both what I stand for and who I want to be,” she says.
“I was really honored at the opportunity when I was asked to participate in the campaign.”
One of the aspects Franklin loves most about her job at Bastyr Center is getting to know the many patients that walk through the door.
“My favorite thing about working here is that we have really exceptional patients,” Franklin says. She’s especially proud of the discount rates available to low-income patients and seniors.
“I really love that we provide medicine with the concept that it’s not a luxury, but something that should be available to everyone,” she says. “It really shows how much our patients appreciate these special rates.”
Employee and Student
In addition to being one of the helpful faces behind the front desk at Bastyr Center, Franklin also hopes to one day join the ranks of health providers who graduate from Bastyr University.
“At some point I would love to be a student at Bastyr, although I’m still unsure what avenue I would like to pursue,” says Franklin, who has already taken the Birth Doula Skills Workshop from Bastyr University’s Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations.
“Bastyr offers such a broad and ever-growing spectrum of modalities,” she adds. “I’m looking forward to exploring the many natural health practices that make Bastyr a healing place.”
