Our our new online clinical information system will be secure, efficient and do more than just store your medical records.

Bastyr Center Moves to Electronic Health Records

Your health care team is now using the computer in the exam room to create and maintain your medical record electronically. Soon, there will be no more paper charts. Bastyr Center is replacing paper medical records with EpicCare, our new online clinical information system. It’s secure, efficient, and does more than just store your medical records. Your chart will always be up-to-date and readily available at other medical clinics and hospitals using OCHIN EpicCare. In addition, due to greater administrative efficiency, electronic health records may eventually be one of the keys to lowering overall health care costs.

Great New Services

  • e-Prescribing
When your provider wants to refill or prescribe a new medication, they will now be able to send that directly to the pharmacy of your choice (note: some pharmacies may not offer this option). Medications can be picked up from that pharmacy without any paper prescription.

  • After-Visit Summary
After your visit, your health care team will print an After-Visit Summary for you to take home. This is a summary of the topics you discussed during your visit, including your treatment plan and medication details.

  • Implementation
Bastyr Center will be implementing EpicCare this summer. During that time we will be reducing schedules to allow our staff and providers time to adjust to the new systems. Be aware that appointments during this time will be extended and as a result there will be reduced availability of appointment slots. Please bear with us in this transition period.

Your Electronic Health Record: Frequently Asked Questions

How are my computerized medical records kept confidential?

We use the latest and best technology in order to create the most secure environment possible for all clinical information. The exchange of information and data is secure and password protected. Only staff members who need access to your medical record to provide your health care are authorized to access your records.

What are my responsibilities for keeping my online medical record secure?

While Bastyr Center protects the security of your electronic medical record with the best available and proven technologies, patients must also cooperate by assuming their own security responsibilities. Do not leave printed materials where others can read them and be aware that others may read over your shoulder.

Do electronic medical records improve safety?

The institute of Medicine (IOM) study on patient safety (March 2001) concluded there was no single more important factor to improve patient safety in health care than the use of information technology.

Do electronic medical records improve the quality of care?

Having health information available on the computer allows your clinicians easy, quick access to patient health records without having to wait for the paper medical record to be delivered to them.
