Sarah M. Acosta Smith, ND
Current Roles
Dr. Acosta Smith is a clinical faculty member at Bastyr Center for Natural Health, where she supervises team care in the Naturopathic Medicine Department and offers her services in Practitioner Care. She recently supervised an additional clinic shift at Country Doctor Community Clinic. Dr. Smith also teaches on the Bastyr University.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Acosta Smith’s clinical interests include family medicine, women’s health, autoimmune disease, diabetes, migraine headaches, pulmonary medicine and pediatrics. She has additional training in craniosacral therapy.
Healing Philosophy
Her personal healing philosophy involves taking time to teach her patients about their health, treatment options and ways to make necessary life changes. She describes her approach as gentle, meeting each patient where they are on their journey toward wellness and treating each patient as an individual.
Past Experience
Dr. Acosta Smith completed a two-year residency at Bastyr Center. During this time, she helped develop an integrated clinic in the family practice department of Swedish Medical Center's Cherry Hill Campus, and taught the Swedish residents about naturopathic medicine. Her residency also included work at Virginia Mason Pain/Spine Clinics, HealthPoint Community Health Centers, and multiple Bastyr off-site clinics. She was also a preceptor at Odessa Brown Pediatric Clinic and SeaMar Community Health Center Gynecology. Additionally, she spent a year as a student counselor in the Bastyr University Counseling Center.
Education & Affiliations
Dr. Acosta Smith received her ND from Bastyr University and her BA in Kinesiology and Applied Physiology from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
